The New York Historical Society has been offering free admission during President's Week so a buddy and I swung by yesterday to check out their Lincoln And New York exhibit. It took us about 2 hours to work our way through the collection of images, artifacts, period documents, etc. detailing Lincoln's relationship with New York from the start of his presidential candidacy to his assassination.
We had a great experience. It was like traveling back in time and spending two hours in NYC from the years 1860 to 1865. For those of you thinking this sounds boring, there are plenty of laughs in the form of political cartoons and one of my personal highlights, a book of limericks poking fun at one of the political factions of the time.
While the exhibit will be around until March 25th you can bypass $12 adult admission fee until Sunday, February 21st. This weekend hours are as follows:
Friday 2/19 - Open until 8 pm
Saturday 2/20 - 10am to 6 pm
Sunday 2/21 - 11am to 5:45 pm
The New York Historical Society is located at 170 Central Park West at 77th Street.
**** This just in. If you visit today, Friday 2/19, NY Historical Society says there will be an "Amazing live music by Mannes students at 6PM." ******
