When I think New York City and Art, I can truthfully say "Queens" is not part of my thought process but here's an event that may change my thinking.

Queens Art Express is a 4-day festival geared toward exposing the vibrant arts community along Queens' 7 subway line and runs from June 10th to June 13th. There are too many events associated with the festival for me to list them all but here are a few that sound worthy of checking out:

  • June 10th-13th, 12-6:00pm : P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center "Greater New York 2010", the third iteration of a series renowned for showcasing emerging artists who are living and working in the metropolitan area. $5 Suggested Admission (that means pay what you can); $2 Students and Senior Citizens : 22-25 Jackson Ave : 718-784-2084
  • June 11th,12-6:00pm: Project Luz, Photography workshop: Faces of Queens, an exhibition of portraits. Come get your studio portrait taken for free! 45-10 Davis St
  • June 12th,11-4:00pm:Queens Museum of Art/Corona Action Network present: "Heart of Corona Artful Tastes Tours." Collaboration with local businesses, will take you on artist-led tours to discover the tastes of Corona. FREE, Corona Plaza, between 103rd St and National S at Roosevelt Ave, call 718-592-9700 for more info.

I know it's 3 weeks away but in addision to making reservations or purchases tickets for some of the vents, there are some cool features on the website that you can start taking advantage of now. The festival highlights galleries, museums, and arts events in the Queens neighborhoods of Long Island CIty, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Corona and Flushing and their are businesses in these neighborhoods offering deals starting May 15th when you flash your MetroCard. Go here for a list of participating businesses and info about what they are offering (e.g. 15% dinner at Riverview Restaurant, Free admission to the Queens Museum).
