In 2009 Eddie Huang entered the Food Network's Ultimate Recipe Challenge with his reinterpretation of the Taiwanese Baozi/Mantou (think sandwiches with doughy buns) made in his family for 3 generations. Becoming a finalist on the show prompted him to use the recipe to launch his own eatery in NYC, Baohaus, which will be 1 year old on Monday.

In a blog post detailing the trials and triumphs of the first year, Eddie also announces that in celebration of the anniversary Chairman, Uncle Jesse, and Birdhaus Baos will be $1 each (there is a 3 Bao max per person). At this price you can afford to get some Sweet Bao Fries with black sesame dipping sauce as a side (my favorite item on the menu).
