What I loved most about being a Latin America Studies major in college was the exposure to Latino writers previously unknown to me. There's something so special about finding characters in literature with whom we can identify. Bless Me Ultima, written  by Chicano author Rudolfo Anaya, was one of those special books for me.

While my hometown bared no resemblance to the New Mexican landscape so beautifully described in Anaya's book I could identify with the family dynamic; extending the definition of family to include the loved ones who play significant roles in our lives. The book captures the strong faith and belief in a little magic that is part of so many Latino families including my own. I can't wait to see the film adaptation!

I won't discuss the plot because you should experience the story for yourself but if you want a sneak peek, the here's the official trailer.

The film hits select theaters in in California, Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Colorado, Illinois, and Florida on February 22nd. I hope that you support it! In the meantime, like the film Facebook page to get updates on the next round of theater releases.
